Role Description

The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland (TDSI) works as part of an international animal welfare organisation, offering care and protection to donkeys and mules worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.

Volunteers have been at the heart of our work for over 15 years and will be an integral part of the charity reaching its goals in the future. If you’re a keen gardener with great communication and customer services skills, and would like to give the gift of time to The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland, we are looking for a volunteer to assist our Estates and Facilities team with the maintenance, development, and beautification of gardens or green spaces within the grounds at our Visitor Information Centre at Knockardbane, Liscarroll, County Cork.

About YOU …..

  • An interest in, and some experience of, gardening.
  • An understanding of manual handling whilst working outdoors.
  • Knowledge of The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland.
  • Friendly and approachable demeanour.
  • Self-motivated with a flexible attitude.
  • A true team player.
  • Willing to complete TDSI Volunteer, GDPR and safeguarding training.

You will be able to help us with ……

  • Grass cutting, strimming and assisting with tree and shrub management.
  • Watering and feeding of tubs and displays within the sanctuary.
  • Weeding and mulching of borders, replanting.
  • Edging up lawns and keeping the gardens and pathways tidy.
  • Seed sowing, Potting up, Propagation.
  • Assisting with painting of benches and other timber fittings around the site.
  • Engaging with visitors to talk and answer questions about volunteering and the work of The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland.

After completing a 1-day centre induction, you will be a true ambassador for The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland, representing the Charity in a positive way at all times, demonstrating our values of compassion, collaboration and creativity. We are happy to accept applications from all who would like to help us, when available, on an ongoing basis.
